At Support Warehouse, we empower businesses and colleagues alike, helping them achieve their best. Championing early careers is fundamental to us; we thrive on the energy of new starters and take great pride in their growth.
We recently caught up with Poppy, who joined us as a graduate Sales Account Manager in 2023 and has since been promoted to Senior Sales Account Manager. We’re excited to share her experience with Support Warehouse so far! Read her interview below.
Who is Poppy?
Role: Senior Sales Account Manager
Joined in: 2023
So, you joined us as a graduate Sales Account Manager back in September 2023, so my first question is why you decided to kickstart your graduate career with Support Warehouse?
I finished university with hospitality experience and really enjoyed the customer service element of the industry. I wanted to obtain graduate experience that would use the people skills I had built through that, and I knew I would be confident in my ability to communicate effectively, so sales appealed to me.
After hearing more about how my role operates and the business model of Support Warehouse, I was really interested and honestly excited to begin!
And how has your experience with us been so far?
My experience so far has been really good. I’m part of a nice, genuine, and social team. We all uplift each other, and I guess we don’t really work in a typical sales way as we aren’t in competition with each other.
We see things as if someone succeeds; it is a success for everyone. That teamwork piece really makes it stand out from other graduate interviews I had. Even after my interview, I instantly got the impression that there was a really positive work environment.
That’s great to hear! Now that you are further into your time with us, what would you say about the work environment?
The people in our company make Support Warehouse unique, particularly the level of teamwork we have! Coming into a sales role, I had preconceptions about it being extremely competitive between colleagues, but I have found Support Warehouse to be a very encouraging and supportive work environment for someone early in their career.
In terms of encouragement, how do you feel success is celebrated at Support Warehouse?
I think there’s a range of celebrations of success here. There are smaller celebrations of success, like any time anyone gets a sale in the team, we will all cheer each other on. No matter what deal, we celebrate every success.
Then, your success is shared beyond just your line manager at our company off-sites, where high performers will be rewarded, and you feel that companywide success recognition.
We can’t talk about success without mentioning your recent promotion…
Yes, I’m starting a new role as a senior sales account manager! Around four months into my role, my line manager and I began to discuss my progression steps and put a personal development plan in place. When the role came up, I was already on track with my plan and was encouraged to apply…Now here we are!
As a graduate, I had no sales experience and wouldn’t have expected to be in a new role already! So, it just goes to show that if you put the effort and time in, are open-minded, and accept the help and skill set of the people around you, you can develop quicker than expected.
Well done! What is your focus for your new role?
I really resonate with our “one team” value. In my new role, it’s something I want to continue to foster for my team. We are one team, if one person is smashing their target, but everyone else is falling behind it’s pointless when we are aiming for the same thing. Being “one team” aligns well with my personal values and what matters to me, so I’d like to keep pushing this further!
Sounds exciting! What advice would you give to anyone who might be considering a sales career with Support Warehouse?
Don’t worry if you think you don’t have the exact knowledge and skills for the role. It’s all learn, learn, learn!
I came into Support Warehouse with no experience in sales, but I did have a willingness to learn. If you have that, you can succeed. When I first joined the team, they would have probably described me as quite quiet and shy, but as soon as I built up my confidence with the help of the training, I was able to succeed.
Overall, it is about willingness to learn and grow your confidence—be willing, and you’ll be great. We’re all working towards the same goal. Embrace that, and you can go far within this company.
That’s great advice; thanks, Poppy!
