Meet Abyan

Job Title: Sales Operations Apprentice

Joined in: 2024

Firstly, why did you decide to pursue an apprenticeship?

It must be the fact I’m working and earning while getting a qualification. I didn’t like the idea of university and knew I just wanted to get stuck right into the working world and pursue what I’m passionate about, data. I’m really excited to get my qualification; it will be such an achievement and investment into my future career.

What motivated you to choose Support Warehouse for your apprenticeship?

I think throughout the interview process, I was asking questions about company growth and my personal growth. I heard everything I wanted to hear in terms of my future pathway being clear and the company's plan for further growth. It was always important for me to be part of a forward-thinking company at the start of my career because I want to contribute to their growth.

So, you’re a few months into the role now! What does a typical day look like for you?

Of course, there’s a nice mix of my apprenticeship training and on-the-job learning! I sit on the Operations team on the quoting side, in charge of the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, and the UK. I usually get to work for my 9 am start and have a morning catch-up with the team. I then log on and get stuck into my daily tasks. I’ll often have a check-in with my external apprenticeship provider and soak up some of the learnings. For lunch, I like to walk around the city and grab some food out, there’s so much to choose from in Leeds! Then, it’s back to my tasks, and I like to refer to my apprenticeship training materials throughout the day. I’ll sometimes sit with another team member and collaborate to finish things up, and it will be home time before I know it.

Sounds like you've made a great start in your position! How has your learning and growth been supported beyond the apprenticeship training?

I’ve worked closely with the team leader, who has taught me so much! I’ve never been scared to ask questions either, as it is very much a no question is a-stupid question kind of culture, which has been a great support. I think when I first started, naturally being younger and going straight into an office role was daunting and I doubted myself. But I realised that I am capable; I trust that I can do a good job, and with the support of the team, I now feel happy in my role, and I am ready to keep growing.

Great to hear you’ve had that support. Beyond your immediate team, how would you describe our company culture?

I think inclusion is something that comes to mind. I think Pride Month was such a great celebration to see, and being part of the launch was great. Obviously, we have people from all around the world working here as well with all those different backgrounds and cultures that all blend into the culture. It feels good to work here, like I belong as part of Support Warehouse. Diversity is celebrated rather than tolerated, and we’re grateful for different types of people; for me, that’s massive and aligns with my own personal values.

Thanks Abyan. One final question… What advice would you give to anyone who might be considering an apprenticeship with Support Warehouse in the future?

I’d tell them to go for it! Enjoy the interview process, come into the office, look out the windows at our view, and really get a feel for whether you can see yourself working here. Be yourself, stay authentic, and you will be welcomed here. Put in the work, make an impact in the organisation, and get that qualification, too!
